Adampur (Punjab), 16 December 2016 :  Punjab is all set to get another airport after bhoomi pujan for a new airport was performed at village kandhola near Adampur and MoU was signed in the presence of the Union Finance Minister Mr. Arun Jaitley , Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal , Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mr. Jayant Sinha and Union Minister for Social justice and Empowerment Mr. Vijay Sampla.
Addressing a state level function at Adampur grain market, Mr. Arun Jaitley said that the air connectivity in Punjab would open new vistas of development as Punjab would have better air connectivity than any other state in India. Terming Punjab as the major beneficiary under the new policy of the Union Government to connect the small towns across the nation, 2 out of three newly sanctioned airports were set up in Punjab at Bathinda and Adampur. Hailing the efforts of Punjab Government for overall development, Mr. Jaitley said that after the dark decade of terrorism, SAD-BJP combine under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal has ensured the atmosphere of peace and prosperity by engaging all communities and making them equal partners in the overall prosperity of the state.

Jaitley also said that Punjab has attained the numero uno position in the area of core infrastructure in a survey conducted by agencies of Union Government on the parameters of Road network, Power generation, Urban and Rural development. The Union Minister has also said that Union government would leave no stone unturned to further speed up the development process as it already approved Amritsar and Jalandhar under Smart city, AIIMS at Bathinda and IIM at Amritsar.
Referring to the congress regime during 2002-2007, the Union Minister said that “there was only single pointed agenda and that was to crush the political opponents by indulging in vendetta politics and during this tenure Punjab didn’t witnessed even a single development oriented project”.

Earlier addressing the gathering, S. Sukhbir Singh Badal said that being a land locked state, the SAD-BJP government had set out to make Punjab the best state in terms of air connectivity and focused all its energies towards this goal which has resulted in Punjab being the best state having air connectivity in the nation. He said that “it was the long pending demand of the people from NRI belt and now this airport would facilitate businessmen, traders , NRIs and even people from the adjoining states.”
Terming SAD-BJP alliance as the one truly devoted to development, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the alliance would register third consecutive victory in the coming assembly elections and last rites of AAP would be performed in Punjab after the polls. Thanking the Union Government for giving special attention towards Punjab S. Badal said that the Airport Authority of India (AAI) will initially construct an airport terminal and a parking bay, for which the Punjab Government has acquired 40 acre land with the consent of the owners. He further elaborated that around 55 to 60 lakh people from Doaba region are settled abroad who have to face a lot of inconvenience to reach their homes, which would now be a history.
Ensuring the people about the speedy work on the project, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Mr. Jayant Sinha said that within a year the project would become a reality. The new civil airport terminal would have 5000 SQM meter building capacity in 40 acre of land in first phase besides parking bays for A-320 type of aircrafts.
Earlier an MOU was also signed between Punjab Government and Airport Authority of India.

Indian economy to contract by 10.3% in 2020; may show 8.8% growth in 2021: IMF

New Delhi, 13 Oct. : The Indian economy, severely hit by the coronavirus pandemic, is projected to contract by a massive 10.3 percent this year, the International Monetary Fund said on Tuesday.

However, India is likely to bounce back with an impressive 8.8 percent growth rate in 2021, thus regaining the position of the fastest growing emerging economy, surpassing China’s projected growth rate of 8.2 percent, the IMF said in its latest ‘World Economic Outlook’ report.

Released ahead of the annual meetings of the IMF and the World Bank, the report said global growth would contract by 4.4 percent this year and bounce back to 5.2 percent in 2021.

America’s economy is projected to contract by 5.8 percent in 2020 and grow by 3.9 percent the next year, the IMF said.

Johnson & Johnson Pauses COVID-19 Vaccine Trial Participant Became Unwell

New Delhi, 13 Oct.: US pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson announced that it has temporarily paused its Covid-19 vaccine trial after a participant became unwell.

“We have temporarily paused further dosing in all our Covid-19 vaccine candidate clinical trials, including the Phase 3 ENSEMBLE trial, due to an unexplained illness in a study participant,” company as saying in a statement on Monday.

The patient’s condition was being reviewed and evaluated by the ENSEMBLE independent Data Safety Monitoring Board as well as internal clinical and safety physicians, it added.
