Chandigarh, 12 Oct.: The Punjab Government has procured nearly 96 percent of paddy of the total arrival so far across the state during the ongoing Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) amid COVID-19.
Secretary Mandi Board Ravi Bhagat said that 33.04 LMT paddy has been procured out of the 34.48 LMT arrival so far. Also, with a view to ensure staggered movement of paddy in mandis, 10.60 lakh passes have been issued to the farmers through arthiyas across the state.
After two days visits of grain markets in various districts in the state, Secretary Mandi Board expressed satisfaction over ongoing paddy procurement operations in mandis amid Covid-19 pandemic.
The mandis across the State have been witness to more than double increase in the arrival of paddy crop with 34.48 LMT till date in comparison to 15.45 LMT last year. He also informed that so far 33.04 LMT paddy has been procured as against 14.79 LMT till date last year, pointed out the Secretary.Earlier, while reviewing the paddy procurement operations during his visit in Khanna, Doraha, Sahnewal (Ludhiana), Jalandhar, Kartarpur, Kapurthala and Phagwara, the Secretray reiterated the firm commitment of Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to procure every single grain of the farmers.
Bhagat also interacted with farmers, labourers and commission agents in the markets and enquired about issues being faced by them.
The Secretary further revealed that despite prevailing situation arising out of Covid-19 pandemic, the Punjab Mandi Board and various District Administrations have ensured the smooth, hassle-free and safe procurement in the grain markets. Meanwhile, he also directed the officials to ensure the lifting of paddy within 48 hours of its purchase during the ongoing procurement season.
He also asked the procurement agencies to regularly monitor the procurement operations in the districts for the convenience of the farmers. The availability of masks, water, soaps have been made in all the grain markets besides the sanitization drive has already been carried out in the grain markets, emphasized the Secretary also exhorting the farmers’ to desist from burning stubble.
Punjab Chief Minister called Navjot Singh Sidhu for lunch Tomorrow
Chandigarh 24 Nov. : Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today called on former minister and Congress MLA Navjot Singh Sidhu for lunch. Information in this regard has been shared by the Chief Minister’s Media Advisor on social media.
It is to be mentioned that the discussions of Sidhu’s displeasure with the Captain had been going on for a long time. After Sidhu resigned as Minister, his distance from the Chief Minister had widened.
Captain government orders to open schools in Punjab, schools will open from this date
Chandigarh, 12 Oct. : Punjab Government has decided to open more activates in the areas outside the containment zones after 15.10.2020.
The decision has been taken to reopen schools and coaching institutions in a graded manner after 15.10.2020 subject to some conditions such as on-line/distance learning shall continue to be the preferred mode of teaching and be encouraged. Apart from this, students of only classes 9th to 12th are permitted to attend schools/institutions with the parental consent of each student and without making attendance compulsory vis-a-vis attendance must not be enforced and must depend entirely on parental consent.
Schools which are being allowed to open after 15th October would have to mandatorily follow the SOPs to be issued by the state school education department in consultation with the Punjab health & family welfare department.
In addition, higher educational institutions only for research scholars (Ph.D) and post-graduate students in science and technology streams requiring laboratories/experimental works are permitted to open after 15thOctober 2020. For centrally funded higher education institutions, the head of institution would satisfy herself/ himself that there is a genuine requirement of research scholars (Ph. D) and post-graduate students in science and technology streams requiring laboratories/experimental works.
All other higher education institutions for instance, state universities and private universities are also permitted to open from 15th October 2020 only for research scholars (Ph.D) and post – graduate students in science and technology streams requiring laboratories/experimental works.
Swimming pools to be used for sportspersons are allowed to open after 15.10.2020 as per SOPs to be issued by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MoYA&S), Government of India. Besides this, Business to Business (B2B) exhibitions are allowed to open from 15.10.2020 as per SOPs issued by the Ministry of Commerce (MoC), Government of India.
Social/academic/sports/ entertainment/ cultural/religious/political functions including weddings and funerals and other congregations have already been permitted with a ceiling of 100 persons, outside containment zones only. Such gatherings beyond the limit of 100 persons are permitted outside containment zones from 15.10.2020 subject to certain conditions such as in closed spaces, a maximum of 50% of the hall capacity is allowed with the ceiling of 200 persons. Wearing of face masks, maintaining social distancing, provision of thermal scanning and use of hand wash or sanitizer shall be mandatory.
In case of open spaces, keeping the size of the ground/space in view, with the permission of the district magistrate and with strict observance of social distancing, mandatory wearing of face masks, provision of thermal scanning and use of hand wash or sanitizer. Therefore, gatherings purely for entertainment shall not be permitted in excess of 100 persons.
Coronavirus : Punjab government imposes curfew in the state with no relaxations
Chandigarh, 23 March : Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday announced a curfew in the state with no relaxations, essential service exempted. The decision comes after reviewing the situation with Chief Secretary and Punjab DGP.
Captain Amarinder Singh took to Twitter and wrote: “After reviewing the situation with Chief Secretary & @DGPPunjabPolice, announced full curfew with no relaxations. DCs have been asked to issue orders accordingly. Any person required to be given relaxation will be so allowed specifically for a given period & purpose.”
Earlier on Monday, Captain Amarinder Singh had written: “In the past few days, we have initiated legal action against violators of home quarantine. All measures being taken are for the larger good of everyone. While I am happy that everyone is cooperating, I will not let a few threaten the safety measures being taken against”
